【2013年1月17日に寄せて】　阪神淡路大震災が起こってから今日で１８年の月日が流れました。
18年前に尊い命を落とされた皆さま、そして大切なご家族ご友人を亡くされた皆さまに改めまして深い哀悼の意を表したいと思います。
そして 阪神淡路大震災の直後の仮設住宅にて生まれた『まけないぞう』も今年で18歳。
神戸で生まれた仕事づくり、いきがい作りの『まけないぞう』は、2004年の新潟の中越地震、2007年の能登半島地震の被災地においても、そして2009年の兵庫県の佐用町の水害の被災地でも作られ、2011年には東日本大震災の被災地にも広がり、この支援の取り組みは 神戸発の被災地から被災地への支援のリレーの形として 今日までの18年の長きに渡って継承されて参りました。
日本各地のそれぞれの被災地にて一生懸命前を見ながら生きていらっしゃる皆さんに 沢山の笑顔と勇気を運んでくれるぞうの形の壁掛けタオルの『まけないぞう』が これからも一人でも多くの被災地の作り手さん達の思いを日本全国、世界各地に運んでいけるように、まけないぞうの応援団の”makenaizone (負けないゾーン)”も応援を続けて参ります。

【Makenaizo Message on Jan. 17, 2013】It’s been 18 years since Hanshin Awaji Great Earthquake occurred on Jan.17, 1995. We’d like to send our deep condolence to the people who have lost their precious lives, to those who lost their loved ones in Hanshin Awaji Area 18 years ago. Actually Makenaizo Elephants were born right after this earthquake and are also 18 years old by this year. Makenaizo is the cute elephant-shaped hanging towel made by the sufferers of the earthquakes & other natural disasters in Japan. The project of making this towel started after Hanshin-Awaji Big Earthquake in 1995. This project was established to create the work and the motivation in life for the sufferers of the earthquake in Kobe. After that, Makenai-zou Project has been relayed from Kobe to Niigata which was terribly hit by Niigata-Chuetsu Earthquake in 2004, to Noto Peninsula that had a big earthquake in 2007, to Sayo-cho in Hyogo Pref. where they had a bad flood in 2009, and to Northeastern Japan hit by 311 Big Earthquake & tsunami. “Makenai-Zo” actually means “We’ll never give-up” in Japanese , and also “Zo” itself means “Elephant”, and that is how this elephant-shaped hanging towel was named after. “Makenaizo” is “Never give up Elephant” that would cheer up the people of the areas hit by the natural disaster and give them the power to step forward.
